With the push of HIPAA and ‘meaningful use’ compliance, three young app developers are taking health records mobile, starting with 50,000 users in its system. Currently in the beta phase, Prime works by aggregating information from a user’s account with their existing patient portals. The developers are working on letting users set up the portals through their app but for now, its users are patients with chronic diseases who already have such accounts. Prime simplifies the life of these patients, and helps with keeping tabs ‘lists of medications, lab results, allergies, office visits, notes, immunization records, and more’. All it requires are the patient’s username and password.
Prime could be the unifying game-changer in a highly fragmented system of patient portals. Despite being under the radar, it has attracted a strong stream of support from chronic suffers, veterans and parents.
