TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center is now using technology to engage with patients during a visit to the emergency room. Patients and their visitors can use a dedicated tablet for information about their care, provide real-time feedback to ER staff or for entertainment.
“No one plans for a medical emergency, but when the unexpected happens, TriStar Hendersonville’s ER delivers the quality care that patients expect, demand and deserve,” said Melony Scott, director of emergency services. “Our new tablets allow patients to connect with their nurses and physicians. They are also able to access relevant health information while they are receiving care.”
TriStar Hendersonville is one of three TriStar Health facilities, including TriStar Skyline and TriStar Southern Hills, to utilize tablets in its ER and is already seeing not only how the patient benefits from the technology, but positive experiences for the staff as well.
In the three weeks that the program launched, TriStar Hendersonville has seen over 3,000 interactive modules and 200 feedback responses from patients, with 90 percent of patients saying they will return to the hospital for future healthcare needs.
“Our ER provides modern, personalized treatment and patient-centered care,” said Scott. “We are excited to use this real-time feedback to address any immediate needs of our patients and to be a resource after they go home.”
Patients have used the tablet as a tool to thank the staff for their care:
“All of the staff here taking care of me are wonderful – especially my nurse Katie. They explained every single thing that they are doing and most of all, making sure that everyone is aware of my sever allergies. Also, my doctor is on top of figuring out what’s wrong and getting me comfortable until then. I will always come here and recommend everyone I know to come here. Thanks.”
Patients also have the capability to:
- Receive information to make a physician appointment
- Read through health content specific to their condition
- Access MyHealthOne patient portal
- Sign up for health insurance on the spot
- Stay entertained by playing games
The new tablet technology is available through a partnership with Bioscape Digital. Bioscape collaborates with health systems to empower, patients, staff and physicians at the point of care.
